"AI SEO", "GEO", "AEO" and "AI visibility" are new service names, and many providers in Vietnam and abroad now use them. Some are experienced search specialists who have adapted their work. Others have renamed an old SEO package. This guide is for marketing leads and founders who need to choose a consultant or agency and want a practical way to compare them. We are one of those providers, so we have tried to keep the criteria neutral enough to use on us too.
What an AI visibility consultant should actually do
The job has three parts.
- Measure. Ask the questions your customers ask, in the languages they use, across the AI tools and search engines that matter in your market, and record which brands are named and which sources are cited.
- Diagnose. Explain the gap: missing or unclear facts on your site, weak or inconsistent information about your business elsewhere, few reviews, competitors that are cited by trusted publications, technical issues that stop pages from being indexed.
- Improve and re-measure. Fix what you control, build the outside signals you can influence honestly, and repeat the same measurement on a schedule.

Red flags specific to AI search
- Guaranteed AI mentions. No provider controls ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews. A guarantee usually means the claim will be measured on a question chosen to make it look true.
- Brand-name-only tests. Asking "What is [your brand]?" proves little. Real customers ask category questions such as "best logistics company in Binh Duong for EU exports".
- Hidden prompts. If the consultant will not show the exact questions, you cannot check the results or compare providers.
- Mass-produced pages. Hundreds of near-identical location or industry pages can create risk with Google's spam policies and rarely earn AI citations.
- Fake reviews or fake sources. Planting reviews, invented testimonials or sites built only to mention your brand can damage trust when discovered.

A credible engagement usually produces:
- A baseline report with the question set, tools, languages, dates and results, so you can repeat it yourself.
- A prioritised fix list for your website: facts, page structure, FAQ content, structured data and indexing issues.

What decides the cost is the number of markets and languages, the number of questions and AI tools tracked, how much of the website needs to change, whether content is written by the consultant or your team, and how much outside work, such as PR and reviews, is included. Local consultant or overseas agency?
A consultant based in Vietnam usually knows the local search habits, Zalo and Facebook, Vietnamese-language sources and how domestic customers phrase questions. An overseas agency may know your home market better. For a foreign company entering Vietnam, or a Vietnamese company selling abroad, the useful profile is someone who can work credibly in both languages and both markets.
