Zero-Click Searches: What They Mean for Your Business in 2026

Zero-click searches explained: why more searches end without a click, what the data shows, and how businesses stay visible anyway.

Quick answer

A zero-click search is a search that ends without the person clicking any result, because the answer appears on the results page itself, in a featured answer, a map pack or an AI summary. The business goal shifts from earning every click to being the name and source inside that answer.

Why zero-click is growing

Pew Research Center followed 900 U.S. adults making 68,879 Google searches in March 2025: with an AI summary on the page, people clicked a traditional result on 8% of visits, against 15% without one, and only 1% clicked a link inside the summary. AI summaries, featured answers and local packs all answer questions directly on the page.

What still works

On-page feature How a business stays visible
AI Overview Be a cited source
Featured answer Provide the clearest, most accurate answer
Map pack Strong Google Business Profile and reviews
Knowledge panel Consistent, verifiable entity information

Our expert view

Zero-click does not mean zero value. A customer who sees your name in the answer, then calls you from the map pack, never clicked a result but still became a lead. We measure enquiries and mentions, not just clicks.

Demand

In Google Keyword Planner (United States, retrieved 25 October 2026), "zero click searches" shows 100 to 1,000 monthly searches, with top-of-page bid estimates around $26.

Frequently asked questions

They reduce clicks but can still build awareness and calls if your business appears in the answer.

Track impressions in Search Console, mentions in AI answers and calls from your Business Profile.

Can I prevent zero-click results?

No. You can only make sure you are part of the answer.

Limits and honest expectations

Search engines and AI assistants change their answers over time and no one controls them. Results vary by industry, city and competition, and we do not guarantee a position, a mention or a number of leads. We report what is measurable, plainly.
